Chinese device maker Xiaomi is holding an event on July 27th, and the company is expected to launch several new products. One may be a laptop… although I’d take that with a grain of salt, since we’ve been hearing rumors of a Xiaomi Laptop for years, and they haven’t panned out so far.
The other is the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 smartphone… and a leaked image of the packaging for the device is making the rounds, which gives me a little more confidence that this is a real product that’s just about ready to go.
Update: More laptop images have surfaced… so I guess this thing is starting to look pretty real too.
Redmi Note 4
According to the label information, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 will feature a 5.5 inch display, a MediaTek Helio X20 deca-core processor, 3GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, a 4,100 mAh battery, a 13MP rear camera, and a 5MP front-facing camera.
There’s no word on how much the phone will cost, but Xiaomi’s Redmi smartphones are usually relatively inexpensive.
As for the laptop, a series of pictures and specs have been leaked in the past few days. If they’re accurate, the Xiaomi notebook will feature a 12.5 inch display, 8GB of RAM, a Core i7 Skylake processor, and a USB Type-C port.
The notebook also bears more than passing resemblance to an Apple MacBook.
It’s possible the laptop may come in two sizes (around 11 inches and around 13 inches), and that the specs we’re seeing may only be for a top-of-the-line model. It’s also possible that the photos and specs are fake. Like I said, we’ve been hearing about Xiaomi’s supposed laptop plans for years, but the company has yet to actually launch one. Maybe that’s about to change… but maybe not.
Then again, the company has launched a wide range of products in recent years, including TVs, self-balancing two-wheel transportation devices, and air purifiers. Word on the street is that a new Xiaomi Electric toothbrush is even on the way. So a laptop doesn’t seem like a particularly far-fetched idea.
Update: There are some additional images giving us a better look at the laptop… and a little more confidence that it’s a real thing.
