Here are five things in technology that happened this past week and how they affect your business. Did you miss them?

1 — The new iPhone and its competitors hope to make the laptop obsolete.

Apple’s latest iPhone can do a lot more than the last version. Among the new features are an edge-to-edge OLED screen, augmented reality and virtual reality capabilities, more storage, and faster processing—meaning users can now do just about everything they’ve been doing with their desktop PCs since the early 90s but in a smaller format. Why this is important for your business:

Sorry, but I don’t believe that. The same was said when tablets became popular. Business people need working devices big enough to do documents, spreadsheets and analysis using keyboards and a screen large enough that won’t cause blindness.  The new iPhone looks awesome but don’t throw out your laptop.

2 — Ikea and Apple team up on an augmented reality home design app.

Ikea announced “Ikea Place”—an augmented reality app that lets consumers design rooms in their homes by virtually test driving furniture and home goods—on September 12, which is the same day Apple unveiled a number of updates to its hardware with the iPhone X. Ikea Place will run on Apple’s ARKit augmented reality platform and will be available on iOS 11 at the end of September. (Source: Curbed)
