CRAIG CharlesÂ has begun his stint as the new presenter of Channel 5’s long-running series The Gadget Show.
The actor and presenter, whose best-known works includes Red Dwarf and Robot Wars, has taken over the reigns from Jason Bradbury, who left the show after 12 years.
And that’s not all â after an appearance on I’m A Celebrity was cut short in 2014, it is rumoured that he could re-enter the jungle for a second stint in the 2017 series.
Craig told the RadioTimes.com:Â âIâve just been asked if Iâll go back in the Jungle again.
âBecause that was cut shortâ¦and never say never, you know?â

How old is Craig Charles and where is he from?
Craig was born on 11 July 1964 in Liverpool to a Guyanese father, whoÂ was a merchant seaman and arrived in the cityÂ in the late 1950s, and an Irish mother and grew up on a housing estate while attending the West Derby Comprehensive.
He once said of his parents: “My mother was Liverpool-Irish and my father was Guyanese and they met outside a boarding house in Liverpool that said, ‘No Irish, no n*****s, no dogs’. They left together hand-in-hand.”
Is Craig Charles married?
Craig was married to actress Cathy Tyson from 1984 to 1989 when he was 18 and she was 19, and they have a son called Jack.
In 1999 he married Jackie Fleming, a journalist, and they have two daughters, Anna-Jo and Nellie-Rose.
What did Craig do before he was famous?
When he was 12 years old, he won a national competition run by the Guardian newspaper for a poem he wrote, which began his career as an urban performance poet.
In 1981 when he climbed on stage at a Teardrop Explodes concert and started to recite a poem about frontman Julian Cope. This boosted his career after he was invited by the band to open gigs for them and he got work as a support act in pubs and clubs. In 1983 he was invited by John Peel to perform his poems with a band on his BBC radio show, his first professional engagement.
What was Craig Charles’ big break?
In 1988, Craig became a household name when he landed the role of slob technician Dave Lister, the last known survivor of the human race, in the BBC sci-fi comedy series Red Dwarf, beating Hugh Laurie to the role.
It became a huge hit and gained cult status for him and his co-stars and Craig is the only cast member, apart from Danny John-Jules who plays Cat, to have starred in every single episode. He also read the audiobook editions of Last Human and The Log: A Dwarfer’s Guide to Everything and returned to the show for two brand new series, which aired on UKTV channel DaveÂ in September 2016.
Craig got involved with yet another cult TV series, this time in the form of BBC2 and Channel 5âs Robot Wars as the main host of the show which saw amateur engineers battled their home-made radio-controlled robots against each other.
He also hosted the live arena shows and the UK tour in 2001 but he was replaced by Irish comedian and presenter Dara OâBriain when the show was rebooted this year.
Craig also co-wrote and provided the voiceover for the Challenge TV show Takeshiâs Castle. In 2012, when Challenge decided to reboot the show, it decided to replace Craig with childrenâs TV presenters Dick and Dom, but received thousands of complaints on social media from fans who were outraged it wasnât Craigâs voice.
When did Craig Charles star in Coronation Street?
In 2005, Craig joined the Coronation Street cast as taxi driver Lloyd Mullaney and was given free rein to introduce various aspects of the characterâs personality. He made him a Northern Soul DJ in a nod to his various radio shows and had posters for his band, The Craig Charles Funk & Soul Club and Red Dwarf in the background on set.
He quit his role on the soap in May 2015 in order to concentrate on filming the new series of Red Dwarf.

Craig presents the The Craig Charles Funk & Soul Show on BBC Radio 6 Music Â which is the longest-running show and has had the highest audience share of any programme on the station.
He also hosts the Craig Charles House Party on BBC Radio 2 on Saturday nights.
Why was Craig Charles in prison?
In July 1994, Charles and a friend were arrested on a rape charge and remanded in custody for several months. While in prison, he was attacked by a man with a knife.
Both Craig and his friend were acquitted after trial the following year butÂ after being cleared, the star spoke about the need to give anonymity for those accused of rape, and said: âThe fact that my name and address along with my picture can appear on the front of the papers before the so-called ‘victim’ has even signed a statement proves that anonymity for rape defendants is a must and that the law must be changed.â
What other controversies has he been involved in?
In 2006, Craig was suspended from Coronation Street after drug taking allegations emerged in a tabloid newspaper.
He was he was arrested for possession of a Class A Drug, was given and accepted a caution and returned to Coronation Street the following year.
In 2009, in an interview with the Guardian, he admitted he spent Â£250,000 on crack cocaine while he as starring on the soap, revealing that it was the aftermath of the rape trial and the death of his father that turned him to drugs again.
When was Craig on I’m A Celebrity?
Craig proved himself to be a popular campmate when he went into the I’m A Celebrity jungle in 2014.
Among his fellow campers were broadcaster Michael Buerk, model Melanie Sykes, rapper Tynchy Strider, former MP Edwina Currie, retired superbike racer Carl Fogarty andÂ actress Vicki Michelle, who was devastated when he had to leave.
Craig left the jungle after four days after his brother Dean died suddenly from a heart attack.
After he said his tearful goodbye, Michelle said: “Itâs such a shame heâs had to go. Itâs a huge loss to the camp because he was a lovely personality, cheeky chappy and weâre all going to miss him.”
