Stolen laptop found through tracking software – OCRegister

IRVINE – Police quickly found a stolen laptop after learning the computer’s whereabouts through tracking software, officials said Thursday.

Police arrested Steve Chang Lin, 49, on suspicion of grand theft and burglary Thursday, within hours of a computer’s theft, police said.

At 12:40 p.m. Thursday, an Irvine restaurateur left his laptop on a table in his eatery’s dining area while he went to help employees in the kitchen, Irvine police said.

The restaurant owner watched his laptop through a window in the kitchen and saw a man take off with it, police said. Using the Find My Mac application, the businessman tracked his computer and contacted Irvine officers.

Police tracked the stolen item to an Irvine home, obtained a warrant and arrested Lin there.
